Why call us

What a repair visit here has to handle

A repair visit on Oahu has to account for conditions a mainland manual never mentions. Only 12 percent of Hawaii homes used central air conditioning in 2020, so most refrigerators, washers and dryers work in warm, damp rooms all year. Lowland humidity runs about 70 to 80 percent on the windward side, well above the 60 percent line where corrosion slows down. Parts often have to come from the mainland by ship or air. That is why we ask for the model number before the trip. And with Hawaii power at 48.00 cents per kWh in July 2026, a fridge that runs nonstop without cooling costs money every day it stays broken.

  • Model number checked first
  • Written estimate before work
  • The fault explained plainly
  • Building house rules respected
  • Parts matched to your model
  • Six appliance types covered

Which signs mean an appliance needs a technician?

A fault that survives the owner checks usually needs a technician. Maker guides list those checks as power and breakers, door or lid closure, control lock or demo mode, supply valves, filters and leveling. If one of these symptoms stays after all that, book the visit.

Fridge running warm

Settings and airflow check out, yet food stays warm. The evaporator fan, condenser fan, compressor or start relay is next. See refrigerator not cooling.

Washer full of water

A tub that sits full and just hums is past the owner checks. The washer not draining page covers the hose and filter first.

Dryer tumbling cold

The drum turns, the vent is clear, and there is still no heat. A blown thermal fuse is one known cause. Read dryer not heating.

Oven slow to light

Gas that takes more than 2 to 3 seconds to light, or lights with a boom, is a job for service.

Standing dishwasher water

Water left in the tub after a cycle points to the filter, drain hose, high loop or pump. Start with dishwasher not draining.

No ice, ever

Low supply pressure gives small or hollow cubes. Nothing at all can mean a frozen line or a failed valve. See ice maker not making ice.

Island housing

Why the same repair changes from town to country

In urban Honolulu about half of all homes sit in buildings of 20 or more units, and about half are rented, so a washer repair there often starts with the building's house rules, access hours and a word with the owner. Across the Koolau range in Kailua, 60 percent of homes were built before 1970, and about three in four are detached houses. In Ocean Pointe on the Ewa plain, 90 percent of homes date from 2000 or later, so the appliances are newer and may still sit inside a maker's warranty. Salt lands unevenly as well. The windward and leeward coasts take the heaviest deposits, and central Oahu the lightest.

Why a weak appliance costs more on this island

Hawaii had the highest average residential electricity bill of any state in 2023, even though its households use some of the least power in the country. EIA blames oil-fired generation and island grids with no link to any other grid. So a fridge with a failing fan or a torn door seal, running long cycles to hold temperature, shows up on the bill fast. Hawaii homes also keep more second fridges: 39 percent had two or more in 2020, against 34 percent nationally. The spare on the lanai is often the one nobody checks.

How a visit works

From your call to a working machine

1

Call

Tell us the brand, the model and serial number from the tag, and what the machine is doing. Any error code on the display helps too.

2

Diagnosis

At your home the technician confirms the fault, runs the built-in self-test where the model has one, and explains the cause before you get a written estimate.

3

Parts

When a part is not on hand, it is ordered for your exact model. Many come from the mainland by ship or air, and we say so before you approve.

4

Follow-up

Some repairs need time to prove themselves. A refrigerator can take up to 28 hours to reach its setting, and a new ice maker 24 to 48 hours to fill.

Where we go

Honolulu and the rest of Oahu

Visits cover town and Waikiki, Hawaii Kai, the windward towns of Kailua and Kaneohe, Mililani and Wahiawa on the central plateau, Waipahu, Pearl City and Aiea, the Ewa plain and Kapolei, the Waianae coast and the North Shore.

Island questions

Visits run island-wide, from Honolulu high-rises to the windward side, the central plateau, the Ewa plain, the Waianae coast and the North Shore.
Refrigerators and freezers, top-load and front-load washers, gas and electric dryers, dishwashers, ovens, ranges and cooktops, and built-in or freezer ice makers. Each one has its own page on this site with the usual causes and what an owner can check first.
Corrosion needs moisture, and much of Oahu supplies plenty of it. Airborne chloride sampled at 126 bus shelters in a University of Hawaii study showed the heaviest salt deposits along the windward and leeward coasts, less on the south and north shores, and the least in central Oahu. Sub-Zero says stainless steel is not immune in high salinity, and that some rust in coastal or tropical homes may not be preventable.
A little. EPA advises keeping indoor humidity below 60 percent, ideally 30 to 50, and venting the dryer outdoors. Maytag says to leave a front-loader's door open between loads and take wet clothes out promptly. In a house that runs on open windows and ceiling fans, those habits do more than usual, because a closed, wet machine dries slowly in damp air.
Book through your building's normal contractor process, since many associations set work hours and access rules under their house rules. In many condos the shared dryer riser belongs to the association and the branch serving one apartment belongs to that unit, but your declaration decides. The condo appliance repair page goes further.

Parts and timing

On-base homes are almost all rented, at Schofield Barracks 3,874 of 3,883 occupied units, so repairs there typically go through the housing operator rather than the resident. Off-base homes are different. Kailua, Kapolei, Waikele and the newer Ewa subdivisions have plenty of service families renting or owning privately, and those visits are booked like any other.
Mostly electric: in 2020, 72 percent of Hawaii homes were all-electric, against 25 percent nationally, and only about one home in ten cooked with natural gas.
The City lists four routes: dealer take-away with a new delivery, a booked bulky item pickup, a City drop-off site, or donation. Federal rules require the refrigerant in an old fridge to be recovered before it is scrapped.
CPSC, as relayed by EPA, advises a yearly professional check of every fuel-burning appliance in the home, gas stoves and gas dryers included.
Yes. Calls and visits run Sunday through Friday, and Saturday is closed. Send the model number and a short description through the form at any time, and we call back to set a slot that suits your building or your schedule. Condo owners should check whether the association allows contractor work on Sundays before picking that day.
