How common is a gas Thermador on Oahu?

Less common than on the mainland. In the 2020 federal energy survey, about 11% of Hawaii homes had a natural gas cooking appliance, against 38% across the country. Thermador builds much of its cooking line around the gas Star burner, though, so those calls still come. Homes on the gas pipelines burn utility gas, a blend that includes synthetic natural gas made from naphtha. Homes off the pipes run on propane from a tank. Tell us which one feeds yours.

What did Thermador bring to cooktops after 1970?

By the maker's own list, the smoothtop cooktop in 1970, pop-up downdraft ventilation in 1978 and a gas cooktop with a super burner in 1982. The sealed gas burner followed in 1987. In 2016 came a 60 in range pairing steam with convection. Why does this history matter on a service call? Older Thermador kitchens often hold several of these generations at once, a downdraft beside a sealed burner top, each with its own parts and quirks.

The brand

CPSC recall notices for Thermador ranges, ovens and cooktops name BSH Home Appliances Corp., which was then based in Huntington Beach, California.

Liberty is the name Thermador gives its induction cooktop, sold alongside the Star burner gas models. Our Thermador cooktop page covers how its boost settings behave.
Four groups show up. In 2002 there were 48 in all-gas pro ranges whose small oven door overheated, and later that year a batch of 45 in electric cooktops with miswired controls. A double wall oven recall began in 2007 and grew in 2010 over self-clean heat reaching cabinets. Then from 2015 to 2017 some dishwashers were recalled for power cords that could overheat. Warranty and visits

Rust that goes through the metal, yes. Built-in Thermador refrigerators carry lifetime parts coverage for rust-through of the stainless door and the inner liner, a line worth knowing on an island with salty air.
Usually the owner, because the base term on every category ends at 2 years. The exceptions are the longer parts lines on built-in refrigeration and dishwashers, plus the rust-through terms. A refrigerator sealed system failure in year 3 still has parts and labor covered.
