JennAir oven repair for wall ovens and their codes

In July 2015, about 33,000 Jenn-Air single, double and microwave combination wall ovens sold from 2012 to 2015 were recalled: the extendable roller rack could come loose when pulled all the way out. We repair JennAir ovens on Oahu.

Things a JennAir oven does that are not faults

Several JennAir oven behaviors look like trouble and are written into the maker's help pages as normal. Ruling these out first can save a visit. If one of them keeps happening after the simple step, that is when we come out.

Fan after cooking

A separate cooling fan protects the controls, and it can keep running after the cycle ends.

Fan that will not quit

If the cooling fan runs a long time, JennAir suggests turning the power off and back on.

A C on the display

The oven is in Celsius mode, which is also why the display tops out at 260.

Clock gone blank

Hold Clock Set/Start for about five seconds and the time display comes back.

Keys do nothing

Control lock may be on. Hold START for 3 seconds to clear it before assuming the board failed.

Door locks fast

During self-clean the door locks about 6 seconds after the cycle starts. That is by design.

Self-clean

What should you do before a JennAir self-clean?

Wipe the edges by hand, leave the gasket alone and move any pet bird out of the room. The strip about 1½ inches around the oven frame, and the edge of the door, never get hot enough to clean themselves, so they need a damp cloth first. Once the cycle starts, plan on the full time: the clock already includes 30 minutes of cool-down before the door unlocks.

Codes and power

An electrician, if the oven went in within about 3 months. JennAir ties F9 and F9E0 to a miswired outlet or supply.
Two things can trigger it without a wiring fault. Line noise during an outage is one. The other is pressing keys while the oven is still in its 10 second delay as power returns. Clear it, let the oven start up untouched, and call us if the code comes back on a quiet day.
It depends on the rating. JennAir calls for a dedicated 40-amp circuit on units rated between 7.3 and 9.6 kW at 240 V, and a dedicated 30-amp circuit on units of 7.2 kW or less. The kW figure is on the rating plate. A double oven swapped in where a single one stood is the case to check.
It is set to Celsius.
The cycle is not over yet. Its time includes 30 minutes of cooling, and the lock releases only after that.
02

Cleaning and service

Move the bird to another room first, as JennAir advises.
No, leave it as it is. Clean the frame strip and door edge by hand instead, since the cycle will not reach them.
Yes, both the oven and microwave halves. If yours has the extendable roller rack, check it against the 2015 recall table above before booking anything else.
That is the cooling fan protecting the controls, and some run on well after a cycle. A long run that never ends is worth a power cycle first, then a call.
Single, double or combination; gas or electric; the code or display text exactly as shown; and whether the trouble began after an outage, a self-clean or a new install.
