Why does a Dacor dishwasher open its own door?
A Dacor dishwasher opens its own door at the end of a cycle on purpose. AutoRelease lets the steam out so the load dries. For the next 2 minutes the door cannot be pushed shut by hand, which is easy to mistake for a broken latch. Owners can switch the feature off with setting A0, though Dacor warns drying may suffer. A door that will not latch at the start of a cycle is a separate problem.
The Dacor care routine, once a month
Filters
Pull and rinse both the coarse filter and the micro filter. Dacor asks for this every month, not just when dishes come out gritty.
Self Clean
Run the Self Clean cycle with the tub completely empty. That is the maker's monthly internal clean, separate from the filter rinse.
Drain pump
If water sits after a cycle, the pump can be cleared through the filter opening. A 5C code points the same way.
Call
If a code returns after the filters and pump are clean, note it with the model number and book a visit.
Does the softener matter with Oahu tap water?
It helps. Dacor builds a water softener into this dishwasher. A USGS review of 1969 to 1985 data found Hawaii public supply water generally soft to moderately hard. USGS also names spotty or cloudy glassware as a common sign of hard water. If spots appear, the softener and rinse settings come before any part. Leaks deserve speed too. EPA says to dry spilled water within 24 to 48 hours to head off mold, a real risk in a humid Oahu home.
