Viking microwave repair, drawer to speed oven

A Viking VMOD5240 drawer microwave slides open and shut at the press of a single button. When that drawer stalls, the fix is not the same as on a hinged door. We repair every Viking microwave style in Oahu kitchens.

How a Viking microwave gets diagnosed

1

Model first

Drawer, built-in, hood or drop-down speed oven: each Viking style has its own parts, so we start from the model number.

2

Install check

A hood mounted too low, or a built-in missing its trim kit, can cause trouble no part swap will fix.

3

Heat test

If the unit runs but food stays cold, we test the heating parts directly, the magnetron first among them.

4

Coverage

If the magnetron failed in years three to five, the part may be covered, and we explain what the owner pays.

Island parts

A Viking magnetron shipped to Oahu

Viking gives the magnetron tube five years of limited coverage, longer than the rest of the unit. There is a catch. From year three to year five the tube comes as a part only, and the owner pays the labor and the shipping. On an island, shipping is not a small line. Before we order one, we confirm the unit's age from the serial and tell you what the warranty will and will not pay. Our parts lead time page covers how long parts take to arrive.

Models and install

The VMOD5240 opens and closes from one button, and it has a child lock. Make sure the lock is not set before calling.
No. The VMOD5240 is made to fit standard cabinets with no extra kit, holds 1.2 cubic feet and offers 12 sensor cooking options.
Yes, that is how Viking pitches the VMOC506 and the RVMHC330 hood model. Both add true convection with ConvecBroil, ConvecRoast, ConvecBake and a manual convection setting, and both can preheat like an oven.
It will. The VMDD5306 has a drop-down door and a 1.6 cubic foot interior sized for that pan. It pairs 1,600 watts of convection with 900 watts of microwave power, so a fault can sit on either side, and we test both.
At least 30 inches, measured from the top edge of the hood down to the cooktop. For best performance, Viking suggests a 24 inch gap between the underside of the hood and the cooktop.

Venting and coverage

Yes, every Viking microwave hood converts without a kit. They are also the only Viking hoods able to vent horizontally out the back, which helps in a condo with no straight path up.
The tube itself is, as a part only. Labor and shipping are on the owner from year three through year five.
Only within 90 days. Glass and painted trim count as cosmetic parts, and they drop off after that short window even though the rest of the unit has two years of full coverage.
Yes, Viking says a microwave can go above its built-in wall ovens.
The drawer units VMOD5240 and VMODC5240, the countertop or built-in VMOS501, VMOC506 and VMOR506, the RVL models RVM320, RVMH330 and RVMHC330, the VMDD5306 speed oven and the MVMSP6301 units. Read the model off the label before you call and the right parts can be checked first.
