Samsung dryer repair
An HC or hE code on a Samsung dryer usually means the machine is running too hot, not too cold. A packed lint screen or vent is holding the heat in. On electric models, weak supply voltage can set the same code.

How to run the Samsung vent blockage test
Samsung dryers with this feature can grade their own exhaust duct. Start with the drum cool and empty. Hold Adjust Time Up and Dry Level until Ins or In appears, then press Start/Pause. The result stays up for five minutes. A 0 or End means clear. CLg or Cg means clogged. C80 says about 80% blocked, C90 more than 90%. Ct is not about the duct. The dryer is below 32°F or above 104°F, so let it rest at room temperature for an hour and retry.
Why a Samsung dryer leaves clothes damp
Damp laundry after a full Samsung cycle often comes from a setting or habit, not a broken part. Rule out these six first. Still wet after all of them? Then the heat side needs a technician.
Eco Dry left on
On models that have it, Eco Dry is the default for Normal and Time Dry. Less heat, no warm-up, longer cycles.
Very small loads
Under about 4 bath towels, too little laundry brushes the sensor bars. The dryer reads dry and quits early.
Filmed sensor bars
Dryer sheet residue on the curved strips beside the lint filter fools them. A little dish soap on a soft cloth clears it.
Foil or plastic duct
Samsung calls both materials unacceptable. When heat and moisture cannot escape, the dryer cuts its own heat.
Duct never cleaned
Samsung advises cleaning the exhaust vent once or twice a year, even when drying still seems normal.
Half the power
An electric Samsung runs on two circuits. With one breaker tripped the drum turns cold. Switch it off for 30 seconds.
Samsung dryer codes and the first move
Samsung sorts its dryer faults into a few families. Most heat and temperature codes lead back to airflow, so the lint screen comes first.
| Code | What it points to | Try first | Owner fix? | Technician job when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HC, hE, HC4 | Overheating from trapped air; low voltage on electric models | Clean the lint screen, then run the vent test | Often | The duct reads clear and the code returns |
| tS, tC, tE | Temperature sensors or heat build-up | Lint screen and duct, same as above | Sometimes | Airflow is fine and a sensor is suspect |
| 9C1, 9E, 2E | Abnormal supply voltage | Own circuit, no extension cord | Sometimes | The outlet or cord supply is at fault |
| dC, dE, dF | Door or latch | Close the door firmly, nothing caught in it | Often | The latch will not hold shut |
| HC2, 3C | Gas ignition error; motor error | Gas supply on, for HC2 | Rarely | Almost always, after the supply check |
