Dishwasher won't start? Check the bottom rack
A lower rack slid in backward can stop the door from latching, and an unlatched door means no cycle at all. Pull the rack out, turn it around, shut the door firmly and try again before booking a Honolulu technician.

What the control panel is showing you
How the panel behaves when you press Start narrows things down fast. Note what you see before you reset anything, because the clue disappears once power is cut in your Honolulu kitchen.
Nothing lights
No display at all suggests the power side: the plug, the breaker or the control board itself.
Lights flash three times
On Whirlpool machines, a lock light blinking three times at each press means control lock is on.
Countdown showing
A delay start was set. The machine is waiting for its time, not broken.
Starts, then stalls
If the dishwasher cannot sense water arriving, the cycle never really gets going. Check the valve under the sink.
Door will not catch
A rack in backward, or a worn latch, keeps the switch that proves the door is shut from closing.
Buttons ignore you
Keys that do nothing even after a reset point toward the touchpad or main control board.
Why won't my dishwasher start?
A dishwasher that will not start most often has a door that is not fully latched, and a lower rack put in backward is a common reason it will not catch. Next, the machine has to detect water, so a closed valve under the sink stops the cycle before it begins. Control lock and a delay start setting both make a working dishwasher look dead. Then try a reset: Whirlpool says press Cancel and cut power at the plug or breaker for about a minute, while Bosch needs at least 5 seconds. If it still will not run, the door latch or lock may be faulty, or unresponsive buttons point to the touchpad or main control board, both technician jobs.
How does a technician trace a no-start?
Ask first
You are asked what the panel did when you pressed Start, whether any light flashed, and whether the last cycle ended normally.
Settings
Control lock, delay start and the cycle selection are cleared on the panel, then the door is closed with the racks seated correctly.
Water, power
The under-sink valve is confirmed open and power at the dishwasher is checked, with the breaker off before any panel or kickplate comes loose.
Latch, board
The door latch and its switch are tested, then the touchpad and main control. A part is replaced only once the fault is proven on your Honolulu machine.
Six reasons it sits idle
| Cause | How you can tell | Owner check or technician job |
|---|---|---|
| Door not latched | Door springs back, or a rack sits backward | Owner check: reseat the lower rack and close firmly |
| Water valve shut | Panel lights but nothing fills | Owner check: open the valve under the sink |
| Control lock | Lock light flashes three times on Whirlpool models | Owner check: turn the lock off as the manual shows |
| Delay start | Countdown or delay light on | Owner check: cancel the delay |
| Controls need a reset | No obvious reason, panel acting odd | Owner check: Cancel, then power off at the plug or breaker |
| Latch, touchpad or board | Fails after all of the above | Technician job |
