Miele dryer repair for heat-pump models
A Miele heat-pump dryer that was just set up or moved should rest at least one hour before its first program. Start it sooner and Miele warns the heat pump can be damaged. After a move, that is our first question.

How does a Miele heat-pump dryer dry?
With two loops instead of a heating element and a vent. A blower pushes the drying air through a heat exchanger, the drum and several filters. Meanwhile a compressor drives a refrigerant loop that warms the air at the back of the exchanger and chills it at the front, pulling the moisture out as water. The model we draw on holds 16.6 oz (0.47 kg) of R134a in a sealed circuit. So a low hum while it dries is normal.
Keeping the heat exchanger free of lint
Door filters
Clean the lint filters in the door opening before or after every load. Miele treats this as routine upkeep, not a repair.
Plinth panel
When the display asks, open the lower access panel and pull out the plinth filter, which guards the heat exchanger behind it.
Inspect
Replace it if it fits poorly, looks deformed, cracked or torn, or keeps showing white or colored residue after cleaning.
Wash gently
A dirty but sound plinth filter can go through the washer alone, with no detergent, at up to 104°F (40°C) and 600 rpm.

Reading a Miele dryer's messages and sounds
| What you see or hear | Likely meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Clean the lint filter. Check the airways. | Lint or detergent residue after a canceled program | Clean the door filters and the plinth filter, then retry |
| Empty the container or check the drain | A full water container or a kinked drain hose | Empty it, or straighten the hose |
| Fault F | A technical fault | Switch off and on once. A repeat needs service |
| A low hum while drying | The heat pump compressor running | Nothing; Miele calls it normal |
Is a heat-pump dryer worth fixing on Oahu?
Often, yes, because of what it saves. ENERGY STAR says heat pump dryers use about 70 percent less energy than conventional ones, and it names households on high electricity rates among those with the most to gain. Hawaii's home rate hit 48.00 cents per kWh in July 2026. A Miele also needs no exhaust duct, which suits condo closets. Two placement rules still apply: the cool-air grille at the front and the gap under the base must stay open.
